Biography

Andrew Strong was born in November 1973 in Dublin from a musical family his father Rob Strong is one of the most respected rock singers in the 70’s and is still remains active in the business today.

1987 Andrew got into music at the tender age of 11 preforming with school mates in various cover bands.

In 1990, John Hughes (The Corr’s Manager) asking him to come Audition for director Alan Parker .He liked what he heard and asked Andrew to come back the following day ….. After a week of preforming numerous songs  days later Andrew got a call from Casting Director John Hubbard congratulating him on getting the part of Deco Cuffe as the lead singer in The Commitments.

1991 The Commitments was released to critical acclaim with the sound track selling over 12 million copies.

1992 Andrew was Nominated for a BAFTA Award  For Best Supporting role A Grammy nomination for his Contribution in The Commitments & a Brit Awards -Winner of best sound track.

Andrew has only ever performed with The Commitments after the movies premiere’s in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago & Dublin, The Grammys , The David Letterman show and a Bette Midler charity show at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles.

1992, after the Movie’s release, Andrew toured Europe, USA and Australia as there was a huge demand for in him to perform in these territories.

This gave Andrew the time and experience to hone his craft as a live performer and get to see first hand how much his music and voice has touched so many people from around the world.

1992 Andrew tours Ireland ,Australia & preformed 2 song as a guest with Bryan Adams in Adelaide’s Entertainment Center.

1992 Two European shows with Elton John  (Copenhagen Parken Stadium & Stockholm’s Olympic Stadium)

1992  Andrew got to perform with one off his heroes David Gilmore for a Free Amnesty International in Nottingham, England.

1992 Support  Prince   RDS Simmons Court  Dublin.

1992 Andrew wins “Best New Comer” at the Telcom Awards Presented by Mike Mills of REM

1993 1st album “Strong”  MCA Records (New York)

1993 – 1994, European tour & Festivals in support of Strong Album
1994 South Africa (Sun City 2 shows) 
1994 The Rolling Stones Support  eight shows Europe Voodoo Lounge tour, 
Lenny Kravitz “Are You Gonna Go My Way” Tour  Switzerland.

1995 Performs Irelands Rugby National anthem song “Ireland Calls” Composer Phil Coulter

In 1995, Andrew moved  to LA  to write new material out there he performed with original BLUES BROTHERS BAND in the HOUSE OF BLUES in  Los Angeles and Boston’s “House of Blues”.

1996, 2nd album” Candy Coated Frown”  MCA Records (Los Angles)

1997  European shows & festivals with Deep Purple & Meat loaf ,

1997    The best of THE COMMITMENTS featuring Andrew Strong ( MCA) Europe

1998  First official US tour,

1998    Guest vocals – Every time you Cry (Jette Torp) EMI (Denmark)
2000, 3rd Album “Out Of Time”  CMC Records EMI (Denmark)

2000  European dates in support of Out Of Time Album

2000  Performs with Ray Charles (Ray Presents Andrew with a Gold Record for “OUT OF TIME” for Denmark)

2002  4th Album “Gypsy’s Kiss” CMC Records EMI (Denmark)

2002 Performs for the Princess of Norway’s wedding in Trondheim Norway.

2003  European & Festival dates  in support of Gypsy Kiss Album.

2005 Records Soundtrack “When I’m Coming Home” in Los Angles for the Film “BROTHERS”, directed by Academy Award winner Susanna Bier.

2005 Andrew goes to LA to write new songs in preparation for  greatest hits album.

2006 Greatest Hits album  Sony Records BMG

2006 & 2007 European and Australia dates in support of Greatest Hits album.

2008 European festivals

2009 US East Coast tour & European festival dates.

2010 US West Coast tour & European festival dates

2011 The Commitments reformed to mark the 20th Anniversary of The Commitments  4 shows in Ireland & 3 shows in the UK finishing at the O2 arena in London.
